Do Energy-Efficient ACs Qualify for Tax Credits?
Not only are old, worn-down AC units less effective than newer models, but they may also be costing you more money in the long run. Advanced air conditioners are a crucial home appliance for Floridians as temperatures are known to reach brutal levels for much of the year; energy-efficient models can also qualify for a tax credit! Below, we discuss the importance of a reliable AC unit for Florida residents and how these systems can cut tax costs.

Installing an Energy-Efficient AC
There’s no denying that the hot, humid Florida weather can take a toll on its residents. Because of this, homeowners must consider upgrading their AC units before the worst of the heat hits! When you hire a professional for exceptional AC installation, you can expect the following benefits:
- Increased efficiency
- Lowered energy costs
- Heightened comfort
- Improved durability and extended lifespan
- Enhanced indoor air quality
Tax Credits for Florida Residents
Fortunately for Florida residents, installing a new eco-friendly AC unit can lead to a tax credit. The Inflation Reduction Act, signed into law in August 2022, was designed to tackle climate change head-on by lowering household and business energy costs. It will inevitably lead to increased savings, security, job opportunities, and benefits for present communities and future generations. This act makes it more affordable for residents to have energy-efficient appliances installed and serviced when necessary.
So, how can you benefit from the Inflation Reduction Act? If you install an eligible energy-efficient air conditioner in your home between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2032, you can claim 30% of the project cost up to a $600 maximum. To quality, the air conditioner must be ENERGY STAR® certified, and have a SEER2 rating of 16 or higher if it is a split system. This incentive is a wonderful way for Floridians to improve comfort, enhance energy efficiency, and save money.
Additionally, you can opt for an energy-efficient air source heat pump instead of a central air conditioner for even more savings in the form of a tax credit. The federal tax credit for installing an air source heat pump is 30% of the project cost up to a $1,200 maximum. To qualify, a ducted heat pump must have earned the ENERGY STAR label, and ductless mini-split heat pumps must have a SEER2 rating of 16 or higher.
